Dr. Derrick J. Hughes serves as the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Piney Grove in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. A passionate advocate for faith-based education and youth development, Dr. Hughes is the visionary behind Piney Grove Academy.

He holds multiple academic degrees, including a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary, and is widely respected for his leadership in both ministry and education.

A Legacy of Excellence:

Dr. Hughes founded Piney Grove Academy, a school that earned national recognition — including honors from the FBI — for its commitment to academic excellence and positive youth development. Originally established to serve young men, the academy has since grown to embrace young women as well.

His unwavering dedication to spiritual growth, academic achievement, and community impact continues to shape the academy’s mission today.
